You Are Invited As Our Special Guest!
We have purchased the food and will be lighting up the Bar-B-Que Pit later this week in anticipation of the big event. We are so proud of the many hours of work and contributions of services given to our communities annually by the Brothers of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The Evergreen Negro Cemetery, Harrisburg Jackson Cemetery, the Bottoms Cemetery on FM 249 and the Dawson-Lunnon Cemetery are the recipients of their labor; and now thanks to Sarge - Bro LaVaughn Mosley we are addressing the Lynchburg Cemetery near the San Jacinto Monument and Battle Grounds. These monuments containing the DNA of our history are no longer overgrown hidden tragedies!
Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 08:00AM until the food is gone we will be mowing, landscaping, and maintaining the Evergreen Negro Cemetery. We have more than five truck loads of mulch to place around the recently planted Crepe Myrtles and Oleanders. Work will be done to further beautify the area or Lockwood Drive at Market Street where the bodies of our forefathers were removed in 1957 for the construction and widening of the streets. In other words. we will work and have some fun commemorating our cultural heritage.
This will be a memorable day as the beauty of the area around the Historic Evergreen Negro Cemetery will be enhanced and the ongoing, everlasting vision of our plan is advanced for everyone to see and enjoy. The impact of the contributions by the entire Omega Psi Phi Organizations will be a lasting part of the historic record and revelation of contributions revealed at these monuments of our history.
Our special treat for everyone will be the Announcement of the Green Arbor Farm and Demonstration Project which is already underway in Hockley, Texas. This site will be a creative demonstration and learning place. We will sow the seeds for better futures for our young people. We will join the world wide effort to save our planet. Our Plans for the implementation of a Service Learning Project at this site will teach students the art of food production, making our own low cost solar panels and creating clean, green, low cost energy. The farm will aid in keeping our air clean and will help to take us back to our roots. Our Concept Pizza Garden will plant and grow everything needed to create a Pizza Pie except the hog and cow for the meat. Now, the Green Arbor Farm is our concept of real world preservation!
Please Come Hungry on Saturday. Bring any side dishes, desserts, drinks, or whatever you want to contribute to making this day memorable. Bring your out-of-doors chairs and tables for your comfort and convenience.
