Hardwork and Commitment to our Mission and Goals - That's Project RESPECT!
Today, Saturday, October 17, 2009, eighty (80) students, Co-Principal Jason, and several teachers from the faculty of the YES Preparatory School Southeast Campus joined us for work at the Evergreen Negro Cemetery. Our work speaks for itself!!! We spent the first few minutes on their arrival introducing our Service Learning Curriculum objectives, briefed students on our Safety Requirements, Use of Equipment, Collected Waivers, explained our Work Plan for the day, and provided the teachers with the written Work Plan document to allow them to assign students to our projects.
When the students finished, we all gathered around their teachers and principal. At the end of the morning there was no doubt about the feeling of those young students. They sang their school song, expressed their thanks to Steve Levine, Sandra L. Meserve and Mr. Woody (that's me). After they departed we continued our work to make the Evergreen site as pleasant as possible.
As soon as the Co-Principal, Jason, and the students arrived back at their campus, Mr. Wright, the other Co-Principal of YES, sent us an email expressing their appreciation for the planning, execution, and enjoyable day we provided at Evergreen Negro Cemetery.
If there is any doubt about the impact we make, just drive past Evergreen and see the results. Our goal is to duplicate our accomplishments at other historic abandoned and neglected cemeteries in our city and state. YES is the fuel that drives our Preservation Engine! We are greatful for these dedicated students.
